4 Whose hands are clean, whose heart sincere, Whose purpose pure, whose actions clear, Whose soul no vanity allures,

And truth his plighted vow secures.
5 This man the blessing shall receive,
The blessing which the Lord will give;
Salvation from his God shall flow,
And righteousness his hand bestow.
6 These are the men, the chosen seed,
Like Jacob wrestling as they plead :
They seek, O God! they seek thy face,
And wait and find the promised grace.

PSALM XXV *.

THY mercies and thy love,
O Lord, recall to mind,

And graciously continue still,

As thou wert ever, kind.

Let all my youthful crimes

Be blotted out by thee;

And for thy wond'rous goodness' sake,

In mercy think on me.

3 His mercy and his truth

The righteous Lord displays
In bringing wand'ring sinners home,
And teaching them his ways.
He those in justice guides
Who his direction seek;
And in his sacred paths shall lead
The humble and the meek.

Through all the ways of God
Both truth and mercy shine,
To such as with religious hearts
To his blest will incline.

Oh keep my soul from death,
Nor put my hope to shame,
For I have placed my only trust
In my Redeemer's name.

With humble feet I wait
To see thy face again :

Of Israel it shall ne'er be said,
"He sought the Lord in vain.”

PSALM XXVI.

UDGE me, O Lord, and prove my ways,
And try my reins, and try my heart;
My faith upon thy promise stays,
Nor from thy law my feet depart.

hate to walk, I hate to sit
With men of vanity and lies:
The scoffer and the hypocrite
Are the abhorrence of mine eyes.

Among thy saints will I

appear
With hands well wash'd in innocence;
But when I stand before thy bar
The blood of Christ is my defence.

I love thy habitation, Lord,

The temple where thine honours dwell;
There shall I hear thy holy Word,
And there thy works of wonder tell.
Let not my soul be join'd at last
With men of treachery and blood;
Since I my days on earth have past
Among the saints, and near my God.
PSALM XXVII.

THOU, Lord, my safety, thou my light,
What danger shall my soul affright?
Strength of my life! what arm shall dare
To hurt whom thou hast own'd thy care?
Though gathering war around I see,
I fix secure my trust on thee.

One wish with holy transport warm
My heart has form'd, and yet shall form.
One gift I ask-that to my end
Fair Sion's courts I may attend;
There joyful find a sure abode,
And view the beauty of my God.
"Seek ye my face with duteous care,
And frequent to my throne repair."
Thus to my heart I hear thee speak;
Thy face, my heart replies,
"I seek ;"
Nor thou to my desiring eye
Thy presence, heavenly Lord, deny.

4 Adopted by thy care, in thee
The Parent and the Friend I see;
O let me, on thine aid reclined,
Thee still my great salvation find;
Nor leave me, helpless and forlorn,
The absence of thy grace to mourn.
5 With patient hope, with mind sedate,
On Israel's God expectant wait.
Be strong, be stedfast-so my heart
Shall feel his grace its aid impart ;
Though press'd with sorrow's heaviest load,
O fix thy trust on Israel's God!

PSALM XXVIII.

1 GOD, my Rock, to Thee complaining,
Suppliant at thy throne I'll pray,
Never, Lord, my prayer disdaining,
Turn with silent scorn away:
Lest if silent while I cry,
Sinking 'midst the dead I lie.

2 Hear my cries to Thee ascending,
While I lift my suppliant hands;
Where my humble suit defending,
Near thy throne my Saviour stands :
Nor 'midst sinners fix my part,
Speaking peace with hostile heart.
3 Now my soul its triumph raises,
Bless Jehovah's guardian care,
He will not disdain my praises,
For his grace hath heard my prayer;
He their strength his Church to save,
Raised th' Anointed from the grave.
4 Bless thy Church, Almighty Saviour,
Let thy saints salvation know;
In the pastures of thy favour,
Feed them near thy fold below:

Till thy love thy Church shall own,
Placed for ever near thy throne.

PSALM XXIX.

NS of the Mighty! rise and bring
ur off'rings to th' Eternal King;
-n 'tis Jehovah while you rise,
ur glory and your strength supplies.

ough rough as waves which sweep the main, s voice the people can restrain;

e God of Glory! o'er our souls, s word like solemn thunder rolls. he mountains bow, the cedars rend, o! at his high command they bend; through the world his Gospel ran, nd bow'd the rebel heart of man. is Word like lightning from the skies, rikes deep, and quick conviction flies; is Word with piercing search reveals, here guilt its secret haunt conceals. ow in his Temple, round his throne, is prostrate Church their Lord shall own; nough sinners rage against his Name, igh o'er the floods He sits supreme! sus is King! enthroned on high e reigns through all eternity! is glory shall his Church increase, ith strength divine and endless peace.

PSALM XXX.

IRM was my health, my day was bright, nd I presumed 'twould ne'er be night; ondly I said within my heart

Pleasure and peace shall ne'er depart."

ut I forgot thine arm was strong,
Which made my mountain stand so long;
oon as thy face began to hide,

ly health was gone, my comforts died.
cried aloud to Thee, my God,—
What canst Thou profit by my blood?
Deep in the dust can I declare

Thy truth, or sing thy goodness there?

C

4 "Hear me, O God of grace," I said,
"And bring me from among the dead;"
Thy word rebuked the pains I felt,
Thy pardoning love removed my guilt.
5 My groans, and tears, and forms of woe
Are turned to joy and praises now;
I throw my sackcloth on the ground,
And ease and gladness gird me round.

6 My tongue, the glory of my frame,
Shall ne'er be silent of thy Name;

Thy praise shall sound thro' earth and heaven, For sickness heal'd, and sins forgiven.

PSALM XXXI.

B. W.

1 THY goodness Lord how great!
Eternally the same!

Before the sons of men laid up,
For those who fear thy Name.

2 My times are in thy hand,
My great Almighty Friend,
For thy name-sake, O God, my strength,
Divine protection send.

3 Into thy hands, O Lord,
My spirit I commend,

Thou hast redeemed me, God of Truth,
In death be thou my friend.
Thy presence shall protect,
Thy watchful care shall hide;
In the pavilion of thy love,
Secure thy saints abide.

6

His marv❜llous loving-kindness keeps
The city where we dwell.

Despond not of his truth,

Nor yield to anxious grief;

God heard my voice when in distress,
I sought and found relief.
