THE HE importance of the tranfactions in the Eaft-Indies, and the many different accounts that from time to time have appeared, feem not only to justify, but even to render neceffary, a recapitulation of many particulars already touched upon in the former volumes of this history. Thus will we be enabled to form a more just idea of the connection betwixt the various events, and of the motives by which our countrymen were influenced. This becomes the more neceffary, when it is confidered, that, in many cafes, the conduct of the British towards the natives has been fet forth in fuch a light as to be attended with no fmall degree of national reproach.
