Now, however, that the same mutilated extracts from J. J. Gurney's writings are brought before the public, it has been deemed only justice to a calumniated individual to give his sentiments entire, upon the different points J. Wilbur has adverted to, placing the garbled passages in brackets.' Thus the unfairness of J. Wilbur and his friend will be apparent. We believe that no unprejudiced and candid mind can read these pages and not be quite convinced, that J. J. Gurney and our early Friends, though somewhat differing in their choice of terms, are perfectly at one in all essentials. And it is only justice to J. J. Gurney to observe, that since these differences in the mode of expression have been pointed out to him, he has taken great pains (on the republication of any of his works) to simplify and improve such passages as were objected to.

Indeed, no one could have shown more readiness than he has done to comply with the wishes of his friends; and while some of his accusers have been heating themselves with a fire of their own kindling, and have been nu profitably occupied in evil surmisings, whisperings.
