ST. PAUL opens this celebrated Epistle to his countrymen in the most sublime and magnificent terms. He wrote to men who knew the nature of the true God, and worshipped him in the way of his own appointment, and whose holy Prophets, the authors of their inspired Scriptures, spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. It was not necessary to explain to them as he did to the Heathen, the first principles of religion,-the providence of God, the responsibility of man, and the extreme folly of all idolatrous service.
