have ye not read this scrip-
ture;
"The stone which
the builders rejected, is be-
come the head of the cor-
ner; this was the Lord's
doing, and it is marvellous
in our eyes?"
And
they sought to lay hold on
him, but feared the people;
for they knew that he had
spoken the parable against
them.

MATTHEW XXII.

1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by 2 parables, and said; The kingdom of heaven is like unto a 3 certain king, which made a marriage for his son, and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to 4 the wedding; and they would not come. Again he sent forth other servants, saying; Tell them which are bidden; Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready; come unto the 5 marriage. But they made light of it, and went their ways; 6 one to his farm, another to his merchandise. And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and 7 slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth; and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murder8 ers, and burned up their city. Then saith he to his ser

them, and said; What is this then that is written; "The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the cor18 ner?" Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to 19 powder. And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people; for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

vants; The wedding is ready, but they which were bid9 den were not worthy. Go ye therefore into the highways, 10 and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

So

those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all, as many as they found, both bad and good; 11 and the wedding was furnished with guests. And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man 12 which had not on a wedding garment; and he saith unto him; Friend, how comest thou in hither, not having a wed13 ding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants; Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weep14 ing and gnashing of teeth. For inany are called, but few are chosen.

But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them; Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I 16 may see it. And they brought it. And he saith unto them; Whose is this image, and superscription? Then saith he unto them; Render therefore unto Cesar the things which are Cesar's; and unto God the things 22 that are God's. When they had heard these words, they marvelled; and left him, 18 and went their way. 23 The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrec24 tion; and asked him, saying; Master, Moses said; "If a man die having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto 25 his brother." And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men; that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of 21 the governor. And they asked him, saying; Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of 22 God truly. Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Ce23 sar, or no? But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them; Why tempt ye 24 me? Shew me a penny; whose image and superscription hath it? They answer25 ed and said; Cesar's. And he said unto them; Render therefore unto Cesar the things which be Cesar's; and unto God the things 26 which be God's. And they

could not take hold of his words before the people; and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection, and they asked 28 him, saying; Master, Moses wrote unto us, 66 if any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed 29 unto his brother." also, and the third, unto the 27 seventh. And last of all the 28 woman died also. Therefore, in the resurrection, 23 whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had 29 her. Jesus answered and said unto them; Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the 25 angels of God in heaven. 31 But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, say-26 32 ing; "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?" and dying left no seed. And the second took her and died, neither left he any seed; and the third likewise. And the seven had

her, and left no seed. Last of all the woman died also. In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had 24 her to wife. And Jesus answering, said unto them; Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels in heaven. And as touching the dead, that they rise, have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying; "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?" He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Ye therefore do 28 greatly err. And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him; Which is the first commandment of
