Biography

LEE EDWARD GEYER was born in Wetmore, Nemaha County, Kans., September 9, 1888; attended the public schools; was graduated from Wetmore (Kans.) High School in 1908 and from Baker University, Baldwin City, Kans., in 1922, and afterward did postgraduate work at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the University of Southern California at Los Angeles; teacher in the rural schools in Nemaha County, Kans., 1908-12; principal of the Hamlin (Kans.) High School 1916-18; during the World War served as a private in the Third Company, First Battalion, Central Officers' Training School, Camp Grant, Ill., from July 15 to December 4, 1918; principal of the Corning (Kans.) High School, 1919-23 and Duncan (Ariz.) High School 1923-25; served as football coach of the David Starr Jordan High School, Los Angeles, Calif., 1925-27, and of the Bell High School, Los Angeles, Calif., 1927-29; teacher of social sciences in Gardena (Calif.) High School 1929-38; member of the State house of representatives 1934-36; unsuccessful candidate for election in 1936 to the Seventyfifth Congress; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth and Seventy-seventh Congresses and served from January 3, 1939, until his death; delegate to the Democratic National Convention at Chicago in 1940; died in Washington, D. C., October 11, 1941; interment in Wetmore Cemetery, Wetmore, Kans.
