manifestations of His abiding presence, in the midst of the spiritual Tribes of Israel. If they do so, their blood will indeed be upon their own heads! Such sin if wittingly committed, "cannot be forgiven in this world, or that which is to come." But God is their judge. Yet let them not shut their eyes, in order that they may not see, and then plead ignorance. In all cases where knowledge is a duty, ignorance is a sin. Oh what a holy eye is Christ's! The most religious men-as far as man's eye could discern, that had ever lived in the annals of Jewish history,-delivered from the sins of their Fathers, as they thought-from the idolatries, corruptions, and sensualities, both of treacherous Judah and backsliding Israel;-Biblical, reverential, and antiquarian,-building and garnishing the sepulchres of the Prophets slain by their Fathers-so full of missionary zeal, that they even engaged in compassing sea and land to make a proselyte, yet in the holy sight of the Lord Jesus Christ our God-when they had converted Him, He was made ten-fold more a child of hell than themselves; and they themselves were in His sight a generation of vipers"- serpents "-" fools -“blind "hypocrites," "who could not escape the damnation of hell." Ah! how true is His word, that which is highly esteemed among men, is an abomination in the sight of God." Depend upon it, as it was then, so it is now.

Matt. xii. 38, 46.—The Scribes and Pharisees,—the Doctors learned in Divine knowledge, and the most exemplary practitioners of what they taught; had just made our blessed Lord and God, an agent of Beelzebub; and he has shewn them their blasphemy. They now turn to Him and say, "Master, we would see a sign from thee? Such men seek to see a sign! He gives such men indeed a sign! A sign to stumble them-to blind them-to dash them to pieces! The sign which will most confound them. His death and burial is their sign! An evil generation, who have formed purposes and plans, contrary and in opposition to God's purposes and plans-seek a sign! There shall no sign be given to it but-what confounds and stumbles them. An adulterous generation,-who have set their hearts' affections upon others rather than God-who draw nigh to God with their lips, BUT KEEP THEIR HEARTS FAR FROM HIMseek a sign! There shall no sign be given unto it—but that which shall make them fall backward, be broken, snared, and taken! Nay, it shall be with this generation,—as with the relapsed demoniac; seven other spirits, more wicked than the first, shall enter in and dwell there. Ah! that people which should have received the sevenfold completeness of the full Baptism of the Holy Ghost,-relapsing

from this their vocation, shall be taken hold of, energized, and possessed by the sevenfold energy of Satan; the consummation of all earthliness, sensuality, and devilishness. The organized concentration of every form of Satanic wickedness.

Matt. xxviii. 16-20.-All power in heaven and in earth became His, who was God, and is God, and became very Man,—by resurrection from the dead. He could now send others, as He had been sent. On the ground of this acquisition and possession of all Celestial and Terrestrial power, He says to His Apostles-and through them to His whole Church,-"Go ye therefore, Disciple, Baptize, and teach the faithful, the observance of all things, whatsoever I have commanded you." He has now all power, divine and human. He now gives what He has received. "In Him dwelleth (now) all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." He became Man, that He might redeem Man; and then regenerate and lift him up into a fellowship with Himself;-that He may use him as His Eternal Instrument in the accomplishment of His Eternal purpose. Any Christian man that will be other or more than a partaker of His fulness—a member of Him in His body, has already consented to,yea fallen into that old lie of Satan,—“YE SHALL BE AS GODS!" Any man that would be more than a stoue in His Temple, shall have his portion in the lake that burneth for Ever and Ever. Oh! any Christian Man, that would be any other, or any more THAN HIS INSTRUMENT,-usurps His place; and in his heart and spirit, says HE IS, AND SHEWS HIMSELF TO BE AS GOD!! Christ alone has bought Men! For Christ alone are men regenerate! Christ alone by the Holy Ghost can call men into His special service; in any measure, kind, or degree! Christ alone by His ordinances can give them their names, their power, their mission. Woe be to the man who calls, names, commissions, and sends himself,—does his own work, according to his own will and way! The Baptism of the Holy Ghost, furnished the Church in His absence, with that light, knowledge, wisdom, discrimination, and authority, which have since her days of youth, been departed from and changed,-into all and every form of earthly, bestial, fleshly, and intellectual power. He was in her then, a Spirit of wisdom, knowledge, revelation, order, love, and power. Since then, His people have done like Israel when there was neither Judge nor Prophet:-" Every man that which was right in his own eyes." Open vision in the Holy Ghost has ceased. Therefore like the blind man, the Church has groped for the wall at noon day. Oh Jesus Our God! anoint our eyes with eye-salve

that we may see again, in thy light; and walk therein for ever more! Mark xvi. 13-20.-" He that believeth and is Baptized shall be saved." There is salvation, by Faith and Baptism into Christ: but "these signs shall follow them that believe," and these signs are part of the effects of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. These signs are the indications to the faithful, that the Lord is working with His Church and Ministers. By these signs and indications of His continued presence and power, He confirms their words and acts. But these signs follow the faithful. Faith first, signs next. What are these signs, and what do they prove? That Jesus in and with His Church has all power in heaven, and in earth;-power over unembodied spirits; and therefore in His name she casts out Devils. Power over human and embodied Spirits; and therefore He by the Holy Ghost useth her tongue. Power over all Satan's power in the brute Creation, and therefore in His name she takes up serpents. Power over all the consequences of the curse in all inanimate creation; and therefore "if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them." Power lastly over the human body; "they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." What a full circle of power! What an Inheritance have we in Christ! Has He taken it away? Never. Why then does not the Church enjoy it? Because of her unbelief and hardness of heart, to believe in, and to receive, all that is contained in her Pentecostal dowry! Fellowship of Christ's resurrection power, therefore, is one of the effects of the Churches abiding in, and enjoying the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. The World will never believe our Testimony, that Jesus is risen, and that the Crucified is become the possessor of all Divine and human power, until we thus witness-that as His body we participate in it, and use and minister it in His name for the blessing of His redeemed creatures. Faith and Baptism save men from condemnation and glorify Jesus as the Saviour. But Baptism with the Holy Ghost, glorifies Christ,-as Christ-the anointed and the anointer;-the Baptizer with the Holy Ghost and fire. Christ saves His people from hell, not that safety might be their end; but in order that being saved, THEY MAY WITNESS FOR, AND SERVE HIM— AS CHRIST AND LORD!

Luke xxiv. 48-49.-Baptism with the Holy Ghost is here called "The promise of the Father, and power from on high," and it is the only thing which can enable the Church "to be witnesses of these things," that is, of what Jesus is,-of what He has done, of what He is doing, and shall yet appear again to

do. Her witness to Gentiles, Jews, Turks,-yea and to her own heretical and unbelieving children, ought not to rest merely on a Book which they refuse to admit; or if they admit it, know not how to appropriate and use it, as evidence;-but on a living fact, viz., the manifested participation of the Church as Christ's Body, in the realities for which she is the accredited witness. All other power will fail her in the hour of trial but this. The power which the favor and patronage of Emperors, Kings, Aristocracies, and Peoples have given unto her, will be of no use to her in the day of her judgment; for they will all stand afar off then-for fear of her torments. The power which learning, wealth, and popularity have given her, will then only tantalize her; for those who have only been making merchandize with her holy things, by these means, will only howl, because their craft is destroyed: and the instruments used for her once, shall then be turned against her. The power which faith, habit, antiquity, use and wont, have given her over men, -will be found a poor substitute for "her power from on high;' “when no man shall buy her merchandize any more!" Ah, and when all these earthly powers are taken from her, bereft of the power with which she was endued from on high, what other power shall seize hold of and possess her? SHE BECOMES THE SPOUSE OF SATAN! THE CAGE OF DEVILS! THE HOLD OF FOUL, UNCLEAN SEDUCING SPIRITS! wild disorder and confusion,-spiritual emptiness (for she must be empty without an indwelling God) and desolation shall reign! "thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles, "in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of dragons, "and a court for owls. The wild beast of the desert shall also meet with the wild beast of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his "fellow; the screech owl also shall nest there, and find for herself a place of rest. There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow; there shall the vulture also "be gathered, every one with her mate." Isaiah xxxv. 9-17. What Edom, Babylon, and Assyria have become physically-through God's judgment upon them;-such shall Christendom spiritually become,in the day of Jehovah's vengeance, IN "THE HOUR WHEN HER JUDGMENT IS COME." Ah! let us all take heed, lest we have the whore's forehead and refuse to be ashamed! Lest we be glorifying ourselves and living deliciously, regardless of Him, unto whom we have been espoused! Lest we say, "Let us solace ourselves with (earthly and fleshly) loves, for the good man is not at home, He is "gone a long journey, He hath taken a bag of money with him, and

"will come (back) home at the day appointed" (Proverbs viii. 19, 20)-lest we be rejoicing in our hearts in Jesus' absence; and that we can live in pleasure and reign on the earth WITHOUT HIM!

John iv. 10-14.-Baptism with the Holy Ghost which the Lord Jesus gives, is to those who partake thereof, “living water”—it is a never ceasing spring. A Well. It never fails. It rises higher, and flows onward,-wider,-deeper, and stronger-" into everlasting life." It empties itself into the ocean fulness of the eternal weight of glory. Whoso drinketh thereof-never thirsts. Life is one thing, water of life is another. They are distinct, yet they are united. It is living water, or the water of life-because it is the appropriate drink of the whole regenerated family of God. It is the stream that flows through the Paradise of God. It is the eternal refreshment-of" eternal life." It is the one stream at which all who are in the new creation, are privileged to drink. "We have all (says St. Paul) been made to drink into one Spirit." 1 Cor. xii. 13. It flows from the smitten Rock, Christ. "It is a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb." It issues through the threshold of the temple of GodFROM JESUS THROUGH APOSTLES. It is one river, though it has its four depths. The further it flows-the deeper it is. Ezek. xlvii. 1-6. Reader, will you let it flow into and through you, springing up in you into everlasting life? Seek then the channels through whom the Lord conveys it to His people! SEEK APOSTLES; that through them it may be ministered unto thee. The wear and tear of thy spiritual life, needs its appropriate drink. Pray to our common Lord to lead His people again

Through pastures fair, near pleasant streams;" even to living fountains of water, all fed and irrigated from the rock of Ages:that you may thirst no more. Such springs are again opening-yea opened! such streams are again flowing; and by them God would again make the Church's "wilderness like Eden; and her desert, like the garden of the Lord." Oh! how true is the charge of God against His covenanted people, "Be "astonished, O ye heavens; at this, be horribly afraid, be ye very <6 desolate, saith the Lord, For my people have committed two evils ; "they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed "them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water." Jer. ii. 12, 13. They forsook Him who contains the ocean fulness of the Spirit. The result has been, each sect in Christendom
