The old Peoria County Jail, showing the side that faced a vacant lot. The other side looked across a narrow alley to a large building. The slits in the wall known as windows are shown in the rear which is the cell house. The last four of these slits opened into the cell house proper. The walls were nearly 15 inches thick and these openings were about 16 inches wide.

An interior view of the four windows of the cell house of the old Peoria County Jail. The bottom of this window was so high from the floor that an average man must stand upon a chair to reach it. The punctured boiler plate was securely riveted to the solid stone walls. The horizontal bar was a pipe extending the length of the corridor to which were attached the fourteen powerful tungstens which burned throughout the day in order to give the room light.
