15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,

16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.

Gen. 30:12-13-Asher, That is, Happy, That symbolizes God's dealings with Asher which is the result of his acts under the guidance of the Lord in the last days, or this shows the result of the acts of Asher, as "he shall yield royal dainties" in the House of Israel.

§Gen. 25:24-28-Jacob, That is, Supplanter. Jacob supplanted Esau twice. First by marrying in his own kin (the most power ful of the earth) and second by the conquest of Esau's homeland in Britain.

7 And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee.

8 And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.

Gen. 21:1-5-Isaac, That is, Laughter. As Sarah laughed at le thought of becoming a mother in her old age, so we laugh t the idea of being Israel: but when Isaac was born she laughed or joy, so we will laugh when Israel is known.

Gen. 17:1-8—Abraham, That is, A multitude of nations. These exts are set in reversal as in Levit. 26:42—Then will I rememer my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, nd also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will emember the land.
