among you, shall be your servant; and whosoever desires to be chief among you, let him be your slave.

And Jesus entered, and was passing through Jericho. And, lo, a man named Zacchæus. He was both chief among the publicans, and was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the crowd, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up a sycamore to see him: for he was to pass it.

And as he came to the place, Jesus looked up, and said to him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And all who saw it, murmured, saying, He has gone to be a guest with a man hardened in sin. And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the lord; Behold, lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if at all I have wronged any by false information, I restore fourfold. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

CHAPTER XXXI.

AND when they came nigh to Jerusalem, to Bethpage and Bethany, towards the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go into the village before you; and as soon as ye enter into it ye will find a colt tied; loose it, and bring it. And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say, The lord hath need of it, and straightway he will send it hither.

And they went and found a colt tied to a door outside in the street: and they loose it. And some of those who stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? And they said unto them as Jesus had told them, and they let them go.

And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on it, and he sat upon it. And many spread their garments in the way; and others cut down branches of the trees, and

strewed them in the way. And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, Hosanna [i.e. save now, save we pray:] Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Blessed be the coming kingdom of our father David; Hosanna in the highest.

And they come to Jerusalem, and having entered into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, and would not allow any one to carry a vessel through the temple. And he taught, and said, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him; for they feared him, because all the people were astonished at his teaching. And when it was evening, he went out of the city.

CHAPTER XXXII.

AND when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one word, which if ye tell me, I also will tell you by what authority I do these things. The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they answered Jesus, and said, We do not know. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

But what think ye? A man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to-day in the vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterwards he re

pented, and went. and said likewise. I (will go), lord:

And he went to the other,
And he answered and said,

but went not. Which of

these two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came unto. you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and harlots believed him and ye, when ye had seen, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

Hear another parable. There was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and placed a hedge round it, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: and when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his slaves to the husbandmen, to receive its fruits. And the husbandmen took his slaves, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. Again, he sent other slaves more than the first and they did unto them likewise. But afterwards he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and keep his
