1 Mr. Philip B. Perlman, of Maryland, was nominated to be Solicitor General by President Truman on January 31, 1947; the nomination was confirmed by the Senate on July 26, 1947; he was commissioned on July 30, 1947; and he took the oath and entered on duty on July 31, 1947. During the vacancy which had existed since the resignation of Solicitor General McGrath on October 7, 1946 (329 U. S. I, n. 3), the duties of the office were performed by Assistant Solicitor General George T. Washington, who signed government briefs and appeared as "Acting Solicitor General."

ALLOTMENT OF JUSTICES.

It is ordered that the following allotment be made of the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of this Court among the circuits, agreeably to the Acts of Congress in such case made and provided, and that such allotment be entered of record, viz:
