Code, sec. 4-527), whose disability is 4 total at the time of retirement, as determined by the Com5 missioner of the District of Columbia (hereinafter "Commis6 sioner"), requires medical or surgical services or hospital treatment after retirement, the expense of such medical or 7 8 surgical services, or hospital treatment, shall be paid by the 9 District of Columbia; but no such expense shall be paid 10 11 except upon a certificate of the Commissioner, after a medical examination of the former member, setting forth the neces sity for such services or treatment and the nature of the 13 disability which rendered the same necessary. 14 SEC. 2. Each disabled former member receiving medical or surgical services, or hospital treatment, at the expense of the District of Columbia, as provided in section 1 of this Act, shall be examined by a medical officer of the District of Co lumbia or by a duly qualified physician designated or approved by the Commissioner (1) At the end of one year from the date the payment for such services or treatment is certified by the Commissioner; and (2) Annually thereafter.
