PREFACE.

THE character and design of " THE ENGLISH WOMAN'S MAGAZINE AND CHRISTIAN MOTHER'S MISCELLANY," being now very generally known, the Editor feels, that little is required of her, in the way of preface to this volume, beyond the expression of her grateful sense of the great and increasing favour with which the work has been received, and of her earnest desire to render it, in future, yet more worthy of that distinguishing favour.

She would, however, avail herself of the opportunity afforded by the close of another year, to state, that while she purposes to give, in future, double diligence to render the EnglishWoman's Magazine, by variety of instructive and entertaining matter, useful and attractive to readers of different characters and tastes, it will continue to be her constant aim and sedulous endeavour to render it, by the Divine blessing, instrumental to the diffusing and recommending of those great principles of Christianity which are worthy of all acceptation.

The Vicarage, Appleby, Westmoreland,

Dec. 1847.
