17 Ac wedi ein dyfod i Jerusalem, y brodyr a'n derbyniasant yn llawen.

18 A'r dydd nesaf yr aeth Paul gyd â ni i mewn at Iago: a'r holl henuriaid a ddaethant yno.

19 Ac wedi iddo gyfarch gwell iddynt, efe a fynegodd iddynt, bob yn un ac un, bob peth a wnaethai Duw yn mhlith y Cenhedloedd trwy ei weinidogaeth ef.

20 A phan glywsant, hwy a ogoneddasant yr Arglwydd, ac a ddywedasant wrtho, Ti a weli, frawd, pa sawl myrddiwn sydd o'r Iuddewon y rhai a gredasant; ac y maent oll yn dwyn zêl i'r ddeddf. 21 A hwy a glywsant am danat ti, dy fod di yn dysgu yr Iuddewon oll, y rhai sydd yn mysg y Cenhedloedd, i ymwrthod â Moses; ac yn dywedyd, na ddylent hwy enwaedu ar eu plant, na rhodio yn ol y defodau.

22 Pa beth gan hynny? nid oes fodd na ddêl y llïaws ynghyd: canys hwy a gânt glywed dy ddyfod di.

23 Gwna gan hynny yr hyn a ddywedwn wrthyt; Y mae gennym ni bedwar gwŷr a chanddynt adduned arnynt:

24 Cymmer y rhai hyn, a glanhâer di gyd â hwynt; a gwna draul arnynt, fel yr eilliont eu pennau, ac y gwypo pawb am y pethau a glywsant am danat ti, nad ydynt ddim, ond dy fod di dy hun hefyd yn rhodio, ac yn cadw y ddeddf.

25 Eithr am y Cenhedloedd y rhai a gredasant, ni a ysgrifenasom, ac a farnasom, na bo iddynt gadw dim o'r cyfryw beth; eithr iddynt ymgadw oddiwrth y pethau a aberthwyd i eilunod, a gwaed, a rhag peth tagedig, a rhag putteindra.

26 Yna Paul a gymmerth y gwŷr; a thrannoeth, gwedi iddo ymlanhâu gyd â hwynt, efe a aeth i mewn i'r deml; gan hysbysu

17 ¶ And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

18 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

19 And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

20 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:

21 And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

22 What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art

come.

23 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;

24 Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

26 Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the

27 A phan oedd y saith niwrnod ar ddarfod, yr Iuddewon oeddent o Asia, pan welsant ef yn y deml, a derfysgasant yr holl bobl, ac a ddodasant ddwylaw arno,

28 Gan lefain, Ha wŷr Israeliaid, cynnorthwywch. Dyma y dyn sydd yn dysgu pawb yn mhob man yn erbyn y bobl, a'r gyfraith, a'r lle yma: ac yn mhellach, y Groegiaid hefyd a ddug efe i mewn i'r deml, ac a halogodd y lle sanctaidd hwn. 29 Canys hwy a welsent o'r blaen Trophimus yr Ephesiad yn y ddinas gyd âg ef, yr hwn yr oeddynt hwy yn tybied ddarfod i Paul ei ddwyn i mewn i'r deml. 30 A chynhyrfwyd y ddinas oll, a'r bobl a redodd ynghyd: ac wedi ymaelyd yn Paul, hwy a'i tynnasant ef allan o'r deml. Ac yn ebrwydd cauwyd y drysau.

And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him, 28 Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.

29 For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.

30 And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut.

32 Yr hwn allan o law a gymmerodd filwyr, a chanwriaid, ac a redodd i waered attynt hwythau, pan welsant y pen-capten a'r milwyr, a beidiasant â churo Paul.

33 Yna y daeth y pen-capten yn nês, ac a'i daliodd ef, ac a archodd ei rwymo ef â dwy gadwyn; ac a ymofynodd pwy oedd efe, a pha beth a wnaethai.

34 Ac amryw rai a lefent amryw beth yn y dyrfa: ac am nas gallai wybod hysbysrwydd o herwydd y cythrwfl, efe a orchymynodd ei ddwyn ef i'r castell.

35 A phan oedd efe ar y grisiau, fe a ddigwyddodd gorfod ei ddwyn ef gan y milwyr, o achos trais y dyrfa.

36 Canys yr oedd llïaws y bobl yn canlyn, gan lefain, Ymaith âg ef.

37 A phan oedd Paul

Jerusalem was in an uproar:

32 Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.

33 Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done.

34 And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle.

35 And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people.

36 For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away

with him.

ddwyn i mewn i'r castell, efe a ddywedodd wrth y pen-capten, Ai rhydd i mi ddywedyd peth wrthyt? Ac efe a ddywedodd, A fedri di Roëg?

38 Onid tydi yw yr Aiphtwr, yr hwn o flaen y dyddiau hyn a gyfodaist derfysg, ac a arweiniaist i'r anialwch bedair mil o wŷr llofruddiog?

39 A Phaul a ddywedodd, Gwr ydwyf fi yn wir o Iuddew, un o Tarsus, dinesydd o ddinas nid anenwog, o Cilicia; ac yr wyf yn deisyf arnat ti, dyro gennad i mi i lefaru wrth y bobl.

40 Ac wedi iddo roi cennad iddo, Paul a safodd ar y grisiau, ac a amneidiodd â llaw ar y bobl. Ac wedi gwneuthur distawrwydd mawr, efe a lefarodd wrthynt yn Hebraeg, gan ddywedyd,

PENNOD XXII.

Hgwrandewch fy ymddiffyn daily;

A wŷr, frodyr, a thadau,

wrthych yr awrhon.

2 (A phan glywsant mai yn Hebraeg yr oedd efe yn llefaru wrthynt, hwy a roisant iddo osteg gwell. Ac efe a ddywedodd)

3 Gwr wyf fi yn wir o Iuddew, yr hwn a aned yn Tarsus yn Cilicia, ac wedi fy meithrin yn y ddinas | hon wrth draed Gamaliel, ac wedi fy athrawiaethu yn ol manylaf gyfraith y tadau, yn dwyn zêl i Dduw, fel yr ydych chwithau oll heddyw.

4 A mi a erlidiais y ffordd hon hyd angau, gan rwymo a dodi y'ngharchar wŷr a gwragedd hefyd.

5 Megis ag y mae yr arch-offeiriad yn dyst i mi, a'r holl henaduriaeth; gan y rhai hefyd y derbyniais lythyrau at y brodyr, ac yr aethum i Damascus, ar fedr dwyn y rhai oedd yno hefyd, yn rhwym i Jerusalem, i'w cospi.

6 Eithr digwyddodd, a myfi yn myned, ac yn nesâu at Damascus,

into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek?

38 Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?

39 But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

40 And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

CHAPTER XXII.

EN, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.

2 (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence : and he saith,)

3 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

4 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

5 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished.

6 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come

8 A minnau a attebais, Pwy wyt ti, O Arglwydd? Yntau a ddywedodd wrthyf, Myfi yw Iesu o Nazareth, yr hwn yr wyt ti yn ei erlid. 9 Hefyd y rhai oedd gyd â myfi a welsant y goleuni yn ddïau, ac a ofnasant, ond ni chlywsant hwy lais yr hwn oedd yn llefaru wrthyf. 10 Ac myfi a ddywedais, Beth a wnaf, O Arglwydd? A'r Arglwydd a ddywedodd wrthyf, Cyfod, a dos i Damascus; ac yno y dywedir i ti bob peth a'r a ordeiniwyd i ti eu gwneuthur.

11 A phryd nad oeddwn yn gweled gan ogoniant y goleuni hwnnw, a'r rhai oedd gyd â mi yn fy nhywys erbyn fy llaw, myfi a ddaethum i Damascus.

12 Ac un Ananias, gwr defosiynol yn ol y ddeddf, ac iddo air da gan yr Iuddewon oll a'r oeddynt yn preswylio yno,

13 A ddaeth attaf, ac a safodd ger llaw, ac a ddywedodd wrthyf, Y brawd Saul, cymmer dy olwg. Ac mi a edrychais arno yn yr awr honno.

14. Ac efe a ddywedodd, Duw ein tadau ni a'th rag-ordeiniodd di i wybod ei ewyllys ef, ac i weled y Cyfiawn hwnnw, ac i glywed lleferydd ei enau ef.

15 Canys ti a fyddi dyst iddo wrth bob dyn, o'r pethau a welaist ac a glywaist.

16 Ac yr awrhon beth yr wyt ti yn ei aros? cyfod, bedyddier di, a golch ymaith dy bechodau, gan alw ar enw yr Arglwydd.

17 A darfu, wedi i mi ddyfod yn fy ol i Jerusalem, fel yr oeddwn yn gweddïo yn y deml, i mi syrthio mewn llewyg;

18 A'i weled ef yn dywedyd

nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.

7 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

8 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest.

9 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

10 And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do.

11 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,

13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.

14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear

the voice of his mouth.

15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard.

16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

17 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance;

18 And saw him saying unto me,

19 A minnau a ddywedais, O Arglwydd, hwy a wyddant fy mod i yn carcharu, ac yn baeddu yn mhob synagog, y rhai a gredent ynot ti.

20 A phan dywalltwyd gwaed Stephan dy ferthyr di, yr oeddwn i hefyd yn sefyll ger llaw, ac yn cydsynio i'w ladd ef, ac yn cadw dillad y rhai a'i lladdent ef.

21 Ac efe a ddywedodd wrthyf, Dos ymaith: canys mi a'th anfonaf yn mhell at y Cenhedloedd.

22 A hwy a'i gwrandawsant ef hyd y gair hwn. A hwy a godasant eu llef, ac a ddywedasant, Ymaith â'r cyfryw un oddi ar y ddaear: canys hid cymmwys ei fod ef yn fyw.

23 Ac fel yr oeddynt yn llefain, ac yn bwrw eu dillad, ac yn taflu llwch i'r awyr,

24 Y pen-capten a orchymynodd ei ddwyn ef i'r castell, gan beri ei holi ef trwy fflangellau; fel y gallai wybod am ba achos yr oeddynt yn llefain arno felly.

25 Ac fel yr oeddynt yn ei rwymo ef â charreiau, dywedodd Paul wrth y canwriad yr hwn oedd yn sefyll ger llaw, Ai rhydd i chwi fflangellu gwr o Rufeiniad, ac heb ei gondemnio hefyd ?

26 A phan glybu y canwriad, efe a aeth ac a fynegodd i'r pen-capten, gan ddywedyd, Edrych beth yr wyt yn ei wneuthur: canys Rhufeiniad yw y dyn hwn.

27 A'r pen-capten a ddaeth, ac a ddywedodd wrtho, Dywed i mi, ai Rhufeiniad wyt ti? Ac efe a ddywedodd, Ië.

28 A'r pen-capten a attebodd, A swm mawr y cefais i y ddinasfraint hon. Eithr Paul a ddywedodd, A minnau a anwyd yn freiniol. 29 Yu rwydd gan hynny yr

me.

19 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:

20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them that slew him.

21 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles.

22 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

23 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, and threw dust into the air,

24 The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.

25 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the centurion that stood by, Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?

26 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest; for this man is a Ro

man.

27 Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, Tell me, art thou a Roman ? He said, Yea.

28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.

29 Then straightway they depart
