thrust us out privily? nay verily ; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.

38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.

39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city.

40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.

CHAPTER XVII.

Amphipolis ac Apolonia, hwy. a ddaethant i Thessalonica, lle yr oedd synagog i'r Iuddewon.

2 A Phaul, yn ol ei arfer, a aeth i mewn attynt, a thros dri sabbath a ymresymmodd â hwynt allan o'r ysgrythyrau,

3 Gan egluro a dodi ger eu bronnau, mai rhaid oedd i Grist ddïoddef, a chyfodi oddi wrth y meirw: ac mai hwn yw y Crist Iesu, yr hwn yr wyf fi yn ei bregethu i chwi.

4 A rhai o honynt a gredasant, ac a ymwasgasant â Phaul a Silas, ac o'r Groegwyr crefyddol liaws mawr, ac o'r gwragedd pennaf nid ychydig.

5 Eithr yr Iuddewon y rhai oedd heb gredu, gan genfigennu," merasant attynt ryw ddynion drwg o grwydriaid; ac wedi casglu tyrfa, hwy a wnaethant gyffro yn y ddinas, ac a osodasant ar dŷ Jason, ac a geisiasant eu dwyn hwynt allan at y bobl.

6 A phan na chawsant hwynt, hwy a lusgasant Jason, a rhai o'r brodyr, at bennaethiaid y ddinas, gan lefain, Y rhai sydd yn aflonyddu y byd, y rhai hynny a ddaethant yma hefyd;

through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the Scriptures,

3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

7 Y rhai a dderbyniodd Jason: ac y mae y rhai hyn.oll yn gwneuthur yn erbyn ordeiniadau Cesar, gan ddywedyd fod brenhin arall, sef lesu.

8 A hwy a gyffroisant y dyrfa, a llywodraethwyr y ddinas hefyd, wrth glywed y pethau hyn.

9 Ac wedi iddynt gael sicrwydd gan Jason a'r lleill, hwy a'u gollyngasant hwynt ymaith.

10 A'r brodyr yn ebrwydd o hŷd nos a anfonasant Paul a Silas i Berea y rhai wedi eu dyfod yno, a aethant i synagog yr Iuddewon.

11 Y rhai hyn oedd foneddigeiddlach nâ'r rhai oedd yn Thessalonica, y rhai a dderbyniasant y gair gyd â phob parodrwydd meddwl, gan chwilio beunydd yr ysgrythyrau, a oedd y pethau hyn felly.

12 Felly llawer o honynt a gredasant, ac o'r Groegesau parchedig, ac o wŷr nid ychydig.

13 A phan wybu yr Iuddewon o Thessalonica fod gair Duw yn ei bregethu gan Paul yn Berea hefyd, hwy a ddaethant yno hefyd, gan gyffrôi y dyrfa.

14 Ac yna yn ebrwydd y brodyr a anfonasant Paul ymaith, i fyned megis i'r môr: ond Silas a Thimotheus a arhosasant yno.

15 A chyfarwyddwyr Paul a'i dygasant ef hyd Athen: ac wedi derbyn gorchymyn at Silas a Thimotheus, ar iddynt ddyfod atto ar ffrwst, hwy a aethant ymaith.

16 A thra yr ydoedd Paul yn aros am danynt yn Athen, ei yspryd a gynhyrfwyd ynddo, wrth weled y ddinas wedi ymroi i eilunod.

7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Cesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the others, they let them go.

10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said,

adwr hwn ei ddywedyd? a rhai, Tebyg yw ei fod ef yn mynegi duwiau dieithr am ei fod yn pregethu yr Iesu, a'r adgyfodiad, iddynt.

19 A hwy a'i daliasant ef, ac a'i dygasant i Areopagus, gan ddy. wedyd, A allwn ni gael gwybod beth yw y ddysg newydd hon, a draethir gennyt?

20 Oblegid yr wyt ti yn dwyn rhyw bethau dieithr i'n clustiau ni: am hynny ni a fynnem wybod beth a allai y pethau hyn fod. 21 (A'r holl Atheniaid, a'r dïeithriaid y rhai oedd yn ymdeithio yno, nid oeddynt yn cymmeryd hamdden i ddim arall, ond i ddywedyd neu i glywed rhyw newydd) 22 Yna y safodd Paul y'nghanol Areopagus ac a ddywedodd, Ha wŷr Atheniaid, mi a'ch gwelaf chwi yn mhob peth yn dra choelgrefyddol.

23 Canys wrth ddyfod heibio, ac edrych ar eich defosiynau, mi a gefais allor yn yr hon yr ysgrifenasid, I'R DUW NID ADWAENIR. Yr hwn gan hynny yr ydych chwi heb ei adnabod yn ei addoli, hwnnw yr wyf fi yn ei fynegi i chwi.

24 Y Duw a wnaeth y byd, a phob peth sydd ynddo, gan ei fod yn Arglwydd nef a daear, nid yw yn trigo mewn temlau o waith dwylaw:

25 Ac nid â dwylaw dynion y gwasanaethir ef, fel pe bai arno eisieu dim; gan ei fod ef yn rhoddi i bawb fywyd, ac anadl, a phob peth oll.

26 Ac efe a wnaeth o un gwaed, bob cenedl o ddynion, i breswylio ar holl wyneb y ddaear, ac a bennodd yr amseroedd rhag-osodedig, a therfynau eu preswylfod hwynt;

27 Fel y ceisient yr Arglwydd, os gallent ymbalfalu am dano ef, a'i gael, er nad yw efe yn ddïau neppell oddi wrth bob un o honom :

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 Oblegid ynddo ef yr ydym ni yn byw, yn symmud, ac yn bod; megis y dywedodd rhai o'ch poëtau chwi eich hunain. Canys ei hiliogaeth ef hefyd ydym ni.

29 Gan ein bod ni gan hynny yn hiliogaeth Duw, ni ddylem ni dybied fod y Duwdod yn debyg i aur, neu arian, neu faen, o gerfiad celfyddyd a dychymmyg dyn.

30 A Duw, wedi esgeuluso amseroedd yr anwybodaeth hon, sydd yr awrhon yn gorchymyn i bob dyn yn mhob man edifarhâu :

31 O herwydd iddo osod diwrnod yn yr hwn y barna efe y byd mewn cyfiawnder, trwy y gwr a ordeiniodd efe; gan roddi ffydd i bawb, o herwydd darfod iddo ei gyfodi ef oddi wrth y meirw.

32 A phan glywsant sôn am adgyfodiad y meirw, rhai a watwarasant; a rhai a ddywedasant, Ni a'th wrandawn drachefn am y peth hwn.

33 Ac felly Paul a aeth allan o'u plith hwynt.

34 Eithr rhai gwŷr a lynasant wrtho, ac a gredasant: yn mhlith y rhai yr oedd Dionysius yr Areopagiad, a gwraig a'i henw Damaris, ac eraill gyd â hwynt.

PENNOD XVIII.

Rol y pethau hyn, Paul a ym

Aadawodd âg athen, ac a ddaeth

i Corinth.

2 Ac wedi iddo gael rhyw Iuddew a'i enw Acwila, un o Pontus o genedl, wedi dyfod yn hwyr o'r Ital, a'i wraig Priscila (am orchymyn o Claudius i'r Iuddewon oll fyned allan o Rufain) efe a ddaeth attynt.

3 Ac, o herwydd ei fod o'r un gelfyddyd, efe a arhoes gyd â hwynt, ac a weithiodd (canys gwneuthurwyr pebyll oeddynt wrth eu celfyddyd)

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

30 And the times of this igno rance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31 Because he hath appointed & day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

33 So Paul departed from among them.

34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

CHAPTER XVIII.

AFTER these things Paul de

parted from Athens, and came

to Corinth;

2 And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome,) and came unto them.

3 And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

5 A phan ddaeth Silas a Thimotheus o Macedonia, bu gyfyng ar Paul yn yr yspryd, ac efe a dystiolaethodd i'r Iuddewon, mai Iesu oedd Crist.

6 A hwythau gwedi ymosod yn ei erbyn, a chablu, efe a ysgydwodd ei ddillad, ac a ddywedodd wrthynt, Bydded eich gwaed chwi ar eich pennau eich hunain; glân ydwyf fi: o hyn allan mi a âf at y Cenhedloedd. | 7 Ac wedi myned oddi yno, efe a ddaeth i dŷ un a'i enw Justus, un oedd yn addoli Duw, tŷ yr hwn oedd yn cyffwrdd â'r synagog.

8 A Chrispus yr arch-synagogydd a gredodd yn yr Arglwydd, a'i holl dŷ a llawer o'r Corinthiaid, wrth wrando, a gredasant, ac a fedyddiwyd.

9 A'r Arglwydd a ddywedodd wrth Paul trwy weledigaeth liw nos, Nac ofna; eithr llefara, ac na thaw:

10 Canys yr wyf fi gyd â thi, ac ni esyd neb arnat, i wneuthur niwed i ti: o herwydd y mae i mi bobl lawer yn y ddinas hon.

11 Ac efe a arhoes yno flwyddyn a chwe mis, yn dysgu gair Duw yn eu plith hwynt.

12 A phan oedd Gàlio yn rhaglaw yn Achaia, cyfododd yr Iuddewon yn unfryd yn erbyn Paul, ac a'i dygasant ef i'r frawdle,

13 Gan ddywedyd, Y mae hwn yn annog dynion i addoli Duw yn erbyn y ddeddf.

14 Ac fel yr oedd Paul yn amcanu agoryd ei enau, dywedodd Galio wrth yr Iuddewon, Pe buasai gam, neu ddrwg weithred, O Iuddewon, wrth reswm myfi a gyd-ddygaswn â chwi :

15 Eithr os y cwestiwn sydd am ymadrodd, ac enwau, a'r ddeddf sydd yn eich plith chwi, edrychwch eich hunain; canys ni fyddaf fi farnwr am y pethau hyn.

5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

6 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. 7 And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.

8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

9 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:

10 For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.

11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,

13 Saying, This fellow persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.

14 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:

15 But if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters.
