SPEECH OF SENATOR ROBERT M. LA FOLLETTE.

The subcommittee met, pursuant to the call of the chairman, at 10.30 o'clock a. m., in the committee room, Capitol, Senator Atlee Pomerene presiding.

Present: Senators Pomerene (chairman), Walsh, and Dillingham. Also present: Senator La Follette.

The CHAIRMAN. The subcommittee has been called for the purpose of considering the resolutions of the Minnesota Public Safety Commission relative to a speech of Senator Robert M. La Follette before the Nonpartisan League in St. Paul, Minn., on September 20, 1917. The chairman assumes that the record should show the reference of the letter, the resolutions, and the copy of the speech delivered by Senator La Follette, which was presented by the Minnesota Commission of Public Safety and referred by the Senate to the Committee on Privileges and Elections. The preliminary correspondence between the chairman of the committee and Senator La Follette, including a copy of the speech which he has furnished, together with his comments thereon, will be printed in the record.
