URTHERMORE David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young a and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God. 2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyxstones b and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance. 3 Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, 4 Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, c and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal: a ch.22.5. 16 And by weight he gave gold foro Ro. 13.1. the tables of show-bread, for every table; and likewise silver for the tables of silver. CHAPTER I. Solomon's choice of wisdom blessed by God. AND a Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and the LORD b his God was with him, and magnified c him exceedingly. B. Job 22.24. gave the going forth of the horses which was Solomon's. 5 hand. 12 Wisdom and knowledge is n granted unto thee; and o I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of p the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like. 13 Then Solomon came from his journey to the high place that was at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tabernacle of the congregation, and reigned over Israel. 14 And Solomon gathered chariots g and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, which he placed in the chariot cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15 Andr the king 3 made silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycamore trees that are in the vale for abundance. 16 And 4 Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn the king's merchants received the linen yarn at a price. 17 And they fetched up, and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and an horse for an hundred and fifty: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hitttes, and for the kings of Syria, by their 5 means. CHAPTER II. Solomon's labourers for the building of the temple. AND Solomon determined to build an house for the name of the LORD, and an house for his kingdom. 2 And Solomon told out threescore and ten thousand men to bear burdens, and fourscore thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them. 3 And a Solomon sent to 1 Hu(CHAP. 2.) ram the king of Tyre, saying, As a 1Ki.5.2,&c. thou didst deal with Davidb my faor. CHAPTER III. The place and time of building the temple. HEN a Solomon began to build Je. 10.10,11. the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount b Ac. 14.15. Re. 10.6. knowing. 9 Even to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I m 1Ki.7.13, am about to build shall be 6 wonder-1 ful great. 14. to all thy Moriah, 1 where the LORD c appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshing floor of 2 Ornan the Jebusite. 2 And he began to build in the se the fourth year of his reign. 10 And, behold, I will give to thy 8 according cond day of the second month, in servants, the hewers that cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil. 9 11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, Because k the LORD hath loved his people, he hath made thee king over them. 12 Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and under-1 standing, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom. And he over 6 He made also ten lavers, and put five on the right hand, and five bts, reaching to the wall of the 6 or, toward on the left, to wash in them: 3 such house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub. 12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits and they stood on their feet, and their faces were 6 inward. 14 And he made the veil h of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and 7 wrought cherubinis thereon. 15 Also he made before the house two pillars i of thirty and five cubits high, and the chapiter thatwas on the top of each of them was five cubits. 16 And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains. 17 And he reared up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand 9 Jachin, and the name of that on the left 10 Boaz. And Huram 5 finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God; 12 To wit, the two pillars, and the pommels, and the chapiters which were on the top of the two pillars, and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars; 13 And four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths; two rows of pomegranates on each wreath, to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were upon the 6 pillars. 14 He made also bases, ƒ and 7 lavers made he upon the bases; 15 One sea, and twelve oxen under it. and the flesh-hooks, and all their 16 The pots also, and the shovels, instruments, did Huram g his father make to king Solomon.for the house of the LORD of bright brass. 17 In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the 9 clay ground between Succoth and Zeredathah. 18 Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance for the weight of the brass could not be found out. 19 And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God, the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the show-bread h was set; |
