CHAPTER XXIV. The division of the sons of Aaron by lot into four and twenty orders. [OW a these are the divisions of Now these are the. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 2 But Nadab and Abihu died b before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office. 3 And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech c of the sons of and Mushi. CHAPTER XXV. The number and offices of the singers. MOREOVER David and the cap tains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, a and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals : and the number of the workmen according to their service was: 2 Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and 1 Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied 2 according to the order of the king. 3 Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and 3 Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, 4 six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD. 4 Of Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, 5 Uzziel, 6 Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: 5 All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the 7 words of God, to lift up the horn. Then for Zechariah his son, (a wise counsellor,) they cast lots; and his lot came out northward. 15 To Obed-edom southward; and to his sons the house of 6 Asuppim. 16 To Shuppim and Hosah the lot came forth westward, with the gate Shallecheth, by the causeway of the going e up, ward against ward. 17 Eastward were six Levites, northward four a day, southward four a day, and toward Asuppimƒ two and two. 18 At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar. 19 These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore, and among the sons of Merari. 20 And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures g of the 7 dedicated things. 21 As concerning the sons of 8 Laadan: the sons of the Gershonlite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Officers and judges. ND David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes a of the tribes, and the captains of the companies b that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards cover all the substance and 1 possession of the king, 2 and cf his sons, with the 3 officers, and with the d mighty men, and with all the valiant men, unto Jerusalem. 2 Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren and my people: As for me, I had e in my heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool fof our God, and had made ready for the building: 3 But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, g because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed 4 blood. 4 Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me h before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever for he hath chosen Judahi to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah the house k of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel: 5 And of all my sons (for the LORD hath given me many sous,) he hath chosen Solomon m my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. 6 And he said n unto me, Solomon thy son, he shall build my house and my courts: for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. 7 Moreover I will establish his kingdom for ever, if o he be 5 constant to do my commandments and my judgments, as at this day. 8 Now therefore in the sight p of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, q keep r and s seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God that t ye may possess this good land, and leave u it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever. |
