15. Are the wicked happy?

saith

The wicked are like the troubled sea when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace, my God, to the wicked. (57 Is. 20, 21.)

17. Will sin be certainly discovered?

Be sure your sin will find you out. (32 Num. 23.)

18. Does God observe our most secret sins?

Thou hast set our iniquities before thee: our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. (90 P.8.)

19. Is sin the transgression of God's law?

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law, for sin is the transgression of the law. (I. Jn. 3.4.)

20. What sentence does God's holy law pass against sin? The soul that sinneth, it shall die. (18 Ezk.4 and 20.) Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (3 Gal. 10.) 21. In what situation does the holy law of God place every sinner?

That every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (3 Rom. 19.)

22. Is the true penitent desirous of acknowledging his sins? How many are mine iniquities and sins! Make me to know my transgression and my sin. (13 Job 23.)

23. How do those act who deny or conceal their sins?

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. (I. Jn. 1.8, 9, 10.)

He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. (28. Pr. 13.) 24. How did Job acknowledge his sinfulness?

If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me : if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse. (9 Job 20.) Behold, I am vile: what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. (40 Job 4.)

VII. OF THE PARDON OF SIN.-THE ATONEMENT OF CHRIST.-REPENT

1. Has God treated us as our sins have deserved?

He hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquity. (103 P. 10.)

If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. (130 P.3, 4.)

2. Can our own works save us?

By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight. (3 Ro. 20.)

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began; but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, (II Tim. 1.9, 10.)

3. Are we all of ourselves spiritually dead?

The love of Christ constraineth us, because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead. (II Cor. 5. 14.)

4. Whom did Christ come to save?

The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (19 Lk. 10.)

They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (2 Mr. 17.)

5. Are we every moment dependant on God's mercy ? It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not: they are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness. (3 Lam. 22, 23.)

To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him. (9 Dan. 9.)

6. Is "God our Saviour" willing to pardon sinners? Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (I Tim. 2. 4.)

We trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (1 Tim. 4.10.)

7. Does God graciously invite sinners to seck his mercy? Ho! every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters; and he that hath no money, come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. (55 Isa. 1.)

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found; call ye upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts, and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon. (55 Is. 6, 7.)

8. What has Christ said to encourage us to come to him? All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. (6 Jn. 37.)

16. Why is the love of God to us so peculiar and exalted? God commendeth his love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (5 Ro. 8.)

Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation, not to be repented of. (II. Cor. 7. 10.)

25. Is the pardoned sinner blessed?

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. (32 P. 1,2.)
