Ref Copos USA 99176 PREFACE In 1972 the jurisdiction of the United States Commission on Civil Rights was expanded to include discrimination on the basis of sex. Over the last 10 years, Congress has passed several measures, the President has issued Executive orders, and several Federal agencies have promulgated regulations--all of which prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex. This publication is intended to inform individuals of their rights under the law and to describe the practical steps they may take to protect their rights. This booklet explains current Federal laws that prohibit sex discrimination, as well as policies and regulations of Federal agencies prohibiting sex discrimination. The booklet describes the major provisions of each law and regulation and the complaint procedures established under each. iii Transfer to be 12-6-84 CONTENTS Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972: Equal Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972, and 44 48 65 |
