Analysis of Educational [The following material is an extract from the brief of the United States filed in United States v. Hines, (C.A. 63-609, N.D. Ala.)] 45-755 0-65-pt. 2-21 EXPLANATORY NOTE The data contained in the accompanying Tables illustrate the comparative quality of white and Negro public education in Sumter County, Alabama, from 1900 through 1960. Sources of all data are the Annual Reports of the Alabama Department of Education. The Tables present information by fiveyear intervals. Wherever appropriate, data pertaining to elementary and high schools are listed in separate columns. As to Annual Reports which did not so differentiate, the aggregate (or average) figure is centered in a column between the elementary and high school columns. Certain categories of data were not reported in some of the Annual Reports; these omissions are indicated by two dashes (--). An asterisk (*) indicates that data for the particular category and year were not differentiated by race. All data are presented as they appear in the Annual Reports, except computations which are based on reported data. Such computations are indicated by a "(c)" in the Appendices. Page references for all data are given in the Appendices. |
