CHAP. 12 And being warned of God in a dream that they fhould not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
13 And, when they were depart ed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Jofeph in a dream, faying, Arife, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will feek the young child to deftroy him.
The wife men directed to Chrift. Jefus was born inBeth-lehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wife men from the eaft to Jerufalem,
2 Saying, Waere is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his ftar in the eaft, and are come to worship him.
3 When Herod the king had heard these things he was troubled, and all Jerufalem with him.
4 And, when he had gathered all the chief priefts and fcribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Chrift should be born.
5 And they faid unto him, In Beth-lehem of Judea; for thus it is written by the prophet,
6. And thou Beth-lehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out ofthee shall come a Governor, that
all rule my people Ifrael.
Then Herod, when he had privily called the wife men, enquired of them diligently what time the far appeared.
8 And he fent them o Beth-lehem, and faid, Go, and fearch diligently for the young child; and, vhen ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him alfo.
9 When they had heard the king they departed; and, lo, the ftar, which they faw in the caft, went before them, till it came and ftood over where the young child was.
10 When they faw the ftar, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11 And when they were come into the house they faw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and, when they had opened their treasures, they prefented unto him
14 When he arofe, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;
15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was fpoken of the Lord by the prophet, faying, Out of Egypt have I called my Son.
16 Then Herod, when he faw that he was mocked of the wife men, was exceeding wroth, and fent forth, and flew all the children that were in Beth-lehem, and in all the coafts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wife men.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was fpoken by Jeremy the prophet, faying,
18 In Rama was there voice heard,, lamentation, and veeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeps ing for her children, and would, not be comforted, because they are not.
19¶ But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
20 Saying, Arife, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Ifrael: for they are dead which fought the young childs life.

Io And now alfo the axe is laid unto the root ofthe trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and caft into the fire.
And he arofe, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Ifrael.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned afide into the parts of Galilee;
23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was fpoken by the prophets, He fhall be called a Nazarene.
CHA P. III.
Jobns office, life, and baptism. IN thofe days came John the Baptift in of Judea,
And faying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3 For this is he that was fpoken of by the prophet Efaias, faying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths ftraight.
4 And the fame John had his raiment of camels hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locufts and wild honey.
Then went out to him Jerufalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about Jordan,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confeffing their fins.
7 But when he faw many of the Pharifees and Sadducees come to his baptifm, he faid unto them, O generation of vipers! who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth, therefore, fruits meet for repentance :
9 And think not to fay within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I fay unto you, That God is able of thefe ftones to raise up children unto Abraham.
IIIindeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whofe fhoes I am not worthy to bear; he fhall baptize you with the Holy Ghoft, and with fire:
12 Whofe fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his flour, and gather his wheat into the gar ner: but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then cometh Jefus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
