OTHER RESULTS AND BLESSINGS OF REDEMPTION. SALVATION IN THE OLD

TESTAMENT.

Exod. xiv, 13, 14. And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show you to-day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to-day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

2 Sam. xxii, 36. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation; and thy gentleness hath made me great.

Ps. xxxvii, 39. But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD; he is their strength in the

time of trouble.

Isa. xxvi, 1. In that day shall this song be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong city: salvation will God appoint for

walls and bulwarks.

Jer. iii, 23. Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel

KNOWLEDGE.

Is, il, 5. O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Hos. viii, 2. Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

John fil, 9--12. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, Ilow can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him. Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye belleve if I tell you of heavenly things?

Rom. xv, 14, 15. And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God.

1 Cor. x, 14, 15. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry. I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.

Eph. 1, 18, 19. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. And what is the exceeding greatness of his

power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.

Col. i, 9. For this cause we also, rince the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

2 Pet. 1, 12. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, tablished in the present truth. though ye know them, and be es

GRACE.

Job xvil, 9, 10. The righteous also shall hold on his way; and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

P3. cxxxviil, 8. The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me, thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands.

Prov. iv, 18. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Пos. vi, 2, 3. After two days will will raise us up, and we shall live he revive us: in the third day he in his sight. Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD his going forth is prepared as the morning, and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.

John xv, 8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Rom. xiii, 12, 13. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the

armour of light. Let us walk

honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strite and envying.

2 Cor. iii, 18. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Phil. 1, 8-11. For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere, and without offence, till the day of Christ; Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

Phil. iii, 15, 16. Let us there

fore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

1 Thess. iv, 1. Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.

2 Thess. 1, 3. We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundetu.

2 Pet. 1, 5 8. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith, virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; and to knowledge, temper ance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. For if these things be in you, and shall neither be barren nor unabonnd, they make you that ye fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

ASSURANCE.

Ps. Ivi, 3, 4, 11. What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

Ps. cxviii, 6. 7. The LORD is on mu do unto me? my side; I will not fear: what can taketh my part with them that The LORD help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

Prov. iii, 25, 26. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it

cometh. For the LORD shall be

thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.

Prov. xxix, 25. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be

safe.

Isa. xxxii, 17. And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance for ever.

Isa. 1, 7, 8. For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. He is near that justifl-th me; who will contend with mc? let us stand together: who is mine adversary?

let him come near to me.

Isa. ll 12. I, even I, am he that

comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die, and of the sou of man which shall be made as grass.

Isa. Ivil, 11. And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest Lie

Luke 1, 77. To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins.

Luke xii, 32. Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Col. ii, 2. That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in lovo, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ.

Heb. vi, 11. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence, to the full assurance of hope unto the end.

Heb. x. 35. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.

Heb. xiii, 6. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

1 John ii, 28. And now, little children, abide in him, that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

1 John iii, 19, 21. And hereby we know we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we contidence toward God.

1 John iii, 16-18. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love cast eth out fear; because fear hath

torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

FORMS OF SELF-RIGHTEOUS

NESS.

Deut. ix, 4, 5. Speak not thou in

uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Job xi, 4-6. For thou hast said, My doctrine is puro, and I am clean in thine eyes. But Oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee; And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

Job xxix, 18. Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

Job xxxiii, 8, 9. Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying, I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

Job xxxv, 2. Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

Ps. x, 5, 6. His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them. He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved; for I shall never be in adversity.

Prov. xxx, 12. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

Isa. xxviii, 15. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us:for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves.

Isa. xliii, 26. Put me in remembrance; let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

Isa. xlvii, 7. And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

Isa. Ivii, 10. Thou art wearied in the greatness of thy way; yet saidst thou not. There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not

grieved.

Isa. Ixv, 5. Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I hatham holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day."

Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock,that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.

Amos vi, 3. Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near.

Luke xvi, 15. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

2 Cor. x, 17, 18. But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Gal. vi, 3. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

Rev. iii, 17. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked

Job xxxii, 1, 2. So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

Mal. iii, 7. Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?

Matth. xix, 20. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?

Mark x, 19, 20. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father

and mother. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

Luke xvill, 21. And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

THREATENINGS AGAINST IT. Isa. xxviii, 17, 18. Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

Isa. xlvii, 8, 9. Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly; that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children: But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection, for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. Isa. xlvii, 10, 11. For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else besides me. Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou

Rev. xviii, 7, 8. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burnt with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.

GENUINE CONFIDENCE.

2 Sam. xxii, 20-25. He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his judgments were before me; and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity. Therefore the Lord hath recompensed me according to my righteousness: according to my cleanness in his eyesight.

Job vi, 29. Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.

Job x, 7. Thou knowest that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of thine hand. Job xiii, 18. Behold now, I have

upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me. I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

COMMUNION WITH GOD. Ps. xlii, 8. Yet the LORD will command his loving-kindness in the day-time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

John xiv, 20-23. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Fa

He that hath my commandinenis, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth nie; and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest him, (not Iscariot,) Lord, how is it myself to him. Judas saith unto that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

1 John i, 3, 6. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.

Rev. iii, 20. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

REJOICING IN GOD. Job xxii, 26, 27. For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt litt up thy face unto God. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him and he shall hear

Ps. ii, 11. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Ps. xxxii, 11. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart Ps. xxxvii, 4. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart, Ps. Ixiv, 10. The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Ps. Ixviii, 3, 4. But let the righteous be glad: let them rejoice before God; yea, let them exceedingly rejoice. Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.

Ps. lxxxix, 15, 16. Blessed is the people that know the joyful Sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

Ps. cxix, 165. Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them.

Ps. cxxxii, 16. I will also clothe her priests with salvation; and

her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

Isaiah Ivi, 14. And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall flourish like an herb.

Micah vii, 8. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light

unto me.

Zeph. ill, 14. Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daugh

ter of Jerusalem.

Matt. xi, 28. Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

John xv, 11. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Phil. iii, 1. Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is

safe.

Phil. iv. 4. Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

1 Thess. v, 16. Rejoice ever

Ps. xxviii, 7, 8. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The LORD is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.

P3. xxxii, 21. For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

Ps. xli, 1, 2. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

Ps. 1xili, 5-9. My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful ps; When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the nightwatches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard alter thee: thy right hand upholdeth me. But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

Ps. Ixxiii, 25, 26. Whom have I

in heaven but theet and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. My flesh ani my heart faileth; but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for

ever.

Ps. cxxvi, 3. 4. The LORD hath done great things for us, whereof we are glad. Turn again our capthe south. tivity, O LORD, as the streams in

Hab. iii, 16 18. When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops. Although the fig-tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Ps. iv, 7. Thou hast put gladGLORYING IN GOD. ness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their Ps. lxxxix. 17. For thou art the wine increased. glory of their strength; and in thy Ps. xviii, 2. The LORD is my favour our horn shall be exalted.

1 Chrom. xvi. 10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.

18a. xxvii, 5, C. In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people. And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.

Jer. ix, 23. 24. Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD, which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

1 Cor. i 31. That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

HOPE IN GOD.

Ps. xxxi, 21. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

Ps. xxxii, 18. 19. Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope soul from death, and to keep them in his mercy: To deliver their

alive in famine.

P3. xxxix, 7. And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Ps. xli, 11. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Ps. cxix, 74, 114. They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy and my shield: I hope in thy word. Thou art my hiding place

word.

Ps. cxxxi, 3. Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

Ps. cxlvii, 11. The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

Lam. iii, 24, 26. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Rom. vili, 24, 25. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope, for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Col. 1, 5. For the hope which is id up for you in heaven, whereof e heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel.

Heb. vi, 18, 19. That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that with

in the vail.
