Jer. xvi, 19-21. O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.

Ezek. xiv, 4-6. Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them,Thus saith the Lord GOD, Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God, Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

Ezek. xx, 7. Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Ezek. xxiii, 30, 49. I will do these things unto thee, because thou last gone a whoring after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols. And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

Hosea xiii, 1. When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Bual, he died.

NATIONAL DISASTER. Deut. iv 23 25 26. Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. When thou shalt beget children, and children's children, and ye shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, and shall do evil in the

sight of the LORD thy God, to pro-
voke him to anger; I call heaven
and earth to witness against you
this day, that ye shall soon utterly
perish from off the land where-
unto ye go over Jordan to possess
it; ye shall not prolong your days
upon it, but shall utterly bo de-
stroyed.

Deut. vi, 14, 15. Ye shall not go
after other gods, of the gods of
the people which are round about
you; (For the LORD thy God is a
jealous God among you;) lest the
anger of the LORD thy God be
kindled against thee, and destroy
thee from off the face of the
earth.

Deut. vill, 19, 20. And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day, that ye shall surely perish. As the nations which the LORD destroyed before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the Voice of the LORD your God.

Deut. xxix, 24-28. Even all nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book. And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

Josh, xxiii, 16. When ye have
transgressed the covenant of the
LORD your God, which he com-

anger of the LORD be kindled
against you, and ye shall perish
quickly from off the good land
which he hath given unto you.

Judges ii, 13-15, 21, 22. And

they
the LORD, and
served Baal and Ashtaroth. And
the anger of the LORD was
hot against Israel, and he de-
livered them into the hands of
spoilers that spoiled them, and he
sold them into the hands of their
enemies round about, so that they
could not any longer stand before
their enemies. Whithersoever
they went out, the hand of the
LORD was against them for evil,

as the Lord had said, and as the LORD had sworn unto them: and they were greatly distressed. I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations which Joshua left when he died; That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD, to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.

Judges iil, 7, 8. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves: Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.

1 Kings xi, 9-11. And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice, And had commanded him concerning

this thing, that he should not go after other gods: but he kept not that which the LORD commanded. Wherefore the LORD said unto Solomon, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept my Covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded thee, I will surely rend the kingdom from thee, and will give it to thy servant.

1 Kings xviii, 17, 18. And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.

1 Chron. v, 25, 26. And they transgressed against the God of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the people of the land, whom God destroyed before them. 2 Chron. xxxiv, 22-25. And Hilkish, and they that the king had appointed, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah. Jer. v, 19. And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Where. fore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

Jer. ix, 12-14. Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burnt up like a passeth wilderness, that none through? And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein; But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them.

Jer. xvi, 10, 11. And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt show this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against u? or what is our iniquity? or What is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God? Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.
