19. And when we cried unto the Lord God of our fathers, the Lord heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labour, and our oppression. DEUT. xxvi. 7.

20. The Lord shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left. DEUT. xxxii. 36.

21. See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I

make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. DEUT. xxxii. 39.

22. Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be. DEUT. xxxiii. 25.

23. There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky. The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee.

24. The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 1 SAM. ii. 6, 7.

26. Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer [the stone of help,] saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us. 1 SAM. vii. 12.

27. And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. 1 SAM. XXX. 6.

28. And he [David] said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me, that the child may live? But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

29. It may be that the Lord will look on

mine affliction.

30. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears. 2 SAM. xxii. 7.
